The celebrated MC Mary Kom marched to number one position in the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) latest world rankings with her sixth world title triumph.

In the updated rankings put out by AIBA, Mary Kom is placed the top of the charts with 1700 points as she turned out to be the most successful boxer in the world championship history when she claimed the 48kg category top honors.

The 36-year-old Manipuri will have to jump to 51kg in pursuit of her 2020 Olympic dream as 48kg is yet to be included in the Games roster. Mary Kom had a glorious 2018 as she bagged gold at the Commonwealth Games and Tournament at Poland. She also clinched silver at the prestigious Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria.

Mary Kom defeated Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota to clinch the Women’s World Boxing Championship to become the only female boxer in history to win six Gold medals in the same event.

Among other Indians, Pinki Jangra is placed 8th in the 51kg category and Asian silver-medalist Manisha Maun holds the same position in the 54kg category.

Despite the poor performance at the Asian Games, Sonia Lather was placed at the second position in the 57kg category and World bronze-medalist Simranjit Kaur(64kg) took the fourth position in her category.
