Tennis superstar, Rafael Nadal was seen helping with the flood relief works in the holiday island, Majorca which is also his hometown. According to the local authorities flooding from the torrential rains has killed at least 10 people and wrecked havoc on the Spanish island.
Social media was raged with video footages which shows torrents of water gushing out through the streets of the town, which was caused by more than 20cm rain poured in just a few hours.
The 17-time Grand Slam Champion was seen out with residents to clear out the dirt and mud from homes and streets. He also opened up his tennis academy at Manacor to the victims who were left homeless.
“Sad day in Majorca. My sincere condolences to the families of the lost ones and hurt due to the severe floods in San Llorenc”, Nadal tweeted. ”We are offering the facilities of the Rafa Nadal Academy for all those who are affected if they need housing.”
Many from the sports world hailed Nadal for his efforts to help the victims and restore the town. Roger Federer called him “super-inspiring” and offered all the support and help. Fellow rival Novak Djokovic also praised Nadal’s efforts which will surely inspire many others to do their social responsibilities.
