Youth Olympic Games witnessed the hockey teams of India, both men’s and women’s went down in their respective finals and securing maiden Silver in the Hockey 5S event in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
India’s men’s team went down 2-4 to Malaysia in the Final which was held at Parque Polideportivo Roca on Sunday while India’s women’s team also suffered the similar fate against host Argentina with a heart-breaking 1-3 loss at the finals.
The Malaysian men’s team and Argentina women’s team created their own history in the Youth Olympics by securing their maiden gold medal in the event of Hockey 5s. Argentina men and China women clinched Bronze medal respectively following 4-0 and 6-0 wins over Zambia and South Africa.
India presented a good show at the beginning of the men’s match by securing a 2-1 lead with the captain of the team, Vivek Sagar Prasad scoring twice within the first six minutes but the Malaysians struck thrice nailing India in the second half. Indian women’s hockey team also suffered the blow by the hosts who scored thrice whereas India had to satisfy with the first score at the 49th second by Mumtaz Khan.
