As young team India with 46 athletes departed to participate in the third Summer Youth Olympics held in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, it was India’s largest contingent at the event. The youngsters proved themselves worthy of it by hauling India’s largest medal hunt of the games with 13 medals (three Gold, nine Silvers, and one Bronze).

Jeremy Lalrinnunga, the 15-year old Mizoram boy became India’s first gold medalist at YOG-2018 in 62 kg weightlifting category. He lifted a total of 274kg, just 1kg short of the senior national record to beat the rest of the field.
Manu Bhaker bounced back in style after a disappointing performance at the Asian Games and World Championship to become the first Indian shooter to clinch gold at the Youth Olympic Games. She scored 236.5 in the event of 10m Air Pistol.
Saurabh Chaudhary dominated in the 10m Air Pistol competition by bagging the yellow metal both at the Asian Games 2018 and at the Youth Olympics too.
Tushar Shahu Mane shot 247.5 in the final of 10m Air Rifle to finish second behind Russian candidate who secured the first place. The former junior World No 1, Lakshya Sen had to settle for Silver in Badminton after losing to China’s Shifeng Li in the finale.
The Manipur teenager, Tababi Devi Thangjam became India’s first judoka to win an Olympic medal at any level to win a Silver in Judo(44kg). Mehuli Ghosh settled for Silver in 10m Air Rifle where she finished with a total of 248.0 behind Denmark’s Grundsoee, who grabbed Gold with a score of 248.7. After sharing the reel space with movie stars in Sultan and Dangal, Simran Ahlawat won the silver in Women’s 43 kg freestyle category in YOG-2018.
Suraj Panwar-Silver 5000m Walk became the first Indian athlete at the Youth Olympics and third across all the editions to bag the Silver. India men and women hockey U18 Team, both came off second best in the finale at the games.
The 16-year old Akash Malik became India’s first-ever silver medal winner in Archery at the YOG. Men’s Triple Jump saw India’s Praveen Chitravel finished with a combined total of 31.52m to bag the Bronze medal.
