India pacer, Khaleel Ahmed was reprimanded by the ICC on Tuesday for acting provocatively during fourth ODI against Windies at Mumbai. The ICC match referee Chris Broad issues an official warning to the left arm pacer for a level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personals.
The incident happened at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai where Khaleel made a provocative gesture towards Marlon Samuels after dismissing him in the Windies’ chase of 378. According to the on-field umpires this could have provoked a reaction from the West Indies player.
The young Indian fast bowler received a demerit point and an official warning. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50% of player’s match fee and 1 or 2 demerit points.
After the match, Khaleel admitted his mistake and accepted the sanction proposed by the Board, as such, there was no need for an official hearing.
India beat West Indies in the match for a huge 224 runs to take an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The final match of this ODI series will be played on Thursday at Trivandrum.
