Real Madrid has confirmed Santiago Solari as the club’s new permanent manager until 2021.
Solari, 42 took charge on October 29 on an interim base following the disastrous reign of Julen Lopetegui who was sacked after just 14 games in the wake of the 5-1 defeat by Barcelona last month. The Argentine has impressed in temporary charge and in a show of faith president, Florentino Perez handed him a deal until 2021.
Roberto Martinez and Mauricio Pochettino were also introduced as possible targets, but ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was most likely to replace Lopetegui until certain senior Real Madrid players dismissed the idea.
Madrid was under pressure to appoint Solari- or someone else as the Spanish rule prevented an interim coach being kept in position for more than two weeks.
Four consecutive wins by the European Champions brightened Solari’s position as the head coach from coaching the club’s B team. Solari made nearly 150 appearances for Real Madrid as a player and later in 2013 he joined the club as the youth coach. He moved later to take charge of the reserves in 2016.
Solari earlier commented,” the important thing is to do what is best for the team, everything else doesn’t matter.” Let us wait and see how the new captain cruises his team through the hard sea.
