Atletico Madrid is having a relatively mixed season in La Liga. They have only lost one game so far but some draws see them in with a group of clubs at the top of the table in what looks like the most open title race in recent memory. A 4-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League served as a good reminder not to take things too quickly.
It has been a season to forget for Monaco. They haven’t won a single game since the first day of the campaign and sit in the relegation spots in Ligue 1 and bottom of their Champions League group. New coach Thierry Henry has been unable to stop the rot and it doesn’t seem likely that they will get anything in Madrid. Staying in the domestic top flight has become a priority.
