The man who played major knocks in the finals of two World Cups for Team India announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday in an emotional video.
In the video released through social media, he mentioned his decision to retire was brought about by the “negative noises” that he eventually couldn’t fight off. The news came as a shocker for everyone as the Delhi cricketer was keen on playing the IPL for his home franchise.
Delhi’s next Ranji Trophy game against Andhra on December first week will be his farewell match which he mentioned as “it is coming to an end where it all began at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground”.
Gautam Gambhir, one of the most ferocious batsmen of India has been out of favor for the national team for a while now after a dip in form and last played in 2016 against England.
He served his country consistently to play 147 matches in the format and went on to gather 5238 runs at an average of 39.68 scoring 11 centuries and 34 half-centuries. Gambhir was India’s top-scorer in the finals of 2007 World T20 in South Africa and the 2011 ODI World Cup, both of which the country wins.
