On the scorching hot day in Adelaide, Cheteshwar Pujara fought a lone battle and defied the Australian bowling unit as he scored his 16th Test hundred to take India to a competitive score on Day1.
Virat Kohli who won the toss opted for the batting at the batting –friendly wicket but that decision didn’t go in favor of the visitors as the Aussie pace unit wreaked havoc at the beginning of the game itself. After teammate after teammate gifted their wickets to Australia, Cheteshwar Pujara stood tall and strong for his country to register the first century of the series.
On late in the day with only two wickets remaining did he open his shoulders and showed the world how the “tough Indian cricket” is played. After losing the wickets of KL Rahul, Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli within the first 11 overs after which Pujara enters and battled for 246 balls to score 123 after being dismissed following an excellent throw by Pat Cummins.
Pujara is the sixth Indian to score a hundred on the first day of a Test outside Asia. The 30-year old also crossed the 5000-run mark in Test cricket, reaching the tally of 14,000 First Class runs at the same time.
