Former Manchester United striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was announced to be the club’s interim manager until the end of the 2018-19 season, before a permanent boss takes over.
He will be joined by Central Coast Mariners Sporting director Mike Phelan as the first-team coach, together with Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.
Solskjaer becomes the interim manager, 20 seasons after clinching the treble with a winning goal in the Champions League final at Camp Nou. The announcement came quite soon after the Red Devils sacked Jose Mourinho on Tuesday after a dismal start despite spending nearly £400m on 11 players.
Nicknamed the “Baby-faced assassin” during his time as the United player, Solskjaer was famous for his lethal finishing and conjure up late goals for the club. Now he is assigned with another rescue operation to lift up the club from its worst start to a League season in 28 years.
Solskjaer said,” Manchester United is in my heart and it is brilliant to be coming to this role. I am really looking forward to working with the most talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club”.
Ed Woodward, executive vice Chairman explained that Solskjaer is a legend with huge experience, both in the pitch and coaching roles and the club is delighted to have him and Mike Phelan back.
