Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a suspect action.
Primarily a batsman, Rayudu occasionally bowls for the team and was reported after India’s one-day international defeat to Australia on January 12th.
“The International Cricket Council today announces that Ambati Rayudu has been suspended from bowling in international cricket”, an ICC statement read. The statement says that Rayudu didn’t elect to submit a test of his bowling action within the stipulated 14 days of being reported for suspect action.”
The off-spinner will remain suspended until his bowling action is tested and can demonstrate that he is able to bowl with legal action.
The 33-year old who is currently playing a five-match series in New Zealand bowled against Australia, two overs for 13 runs in the match at Sydney where he failed to pick up a wicket as India lost the match by 34 runs.
The ICC, however, added that he may be able to bowl in domestic cricket events played under the auspices of BCCI (Indian cricket board).
