Late goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling sealed a dramatic 3-2 Champions League win for 10-man Manchester City at Schalke on Wednesday.
Substitute Sane fired home a stunning free kick in the 86th against his former club while Sterling tucked away from the winner at the Veltins Arena in the 90th minute to seal the victory.
As the video assistant referee (VAR) awarded two penalties, both of them converted by Nabil Bentaleb made Schalke lead ahead with 2-1 at the half-time of the match.
Manchester City faced real trouble when Nicolas Otamendi who gave away the first penalty was thrown off for a second yellow card. The English Champions were left with 10 men in the 68th minute before Sane’s brilliant kick and Sterling’s winner.
Manchester City has a lot more to go in the return leg on March 12 with Fernandinho and Ottemendi suspended from the game. Schalke gave the mighty City a scare even though they are just above the Bundesliga’s relegation places and winless in their last four league games.
