Leicester City has confirmed the appointment of former Liverpool Manager Brendon Rodgers on Tuesday. The Irishman replaced Claude Puel who was sacked following a defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The 46-year-old left Scottish champions Celtic to make a return to the premier league where he had previously managed Swansea & Liverpool. The club had admitted they very reluctantly allowed him to travel to Leicester for talks about the switch. And very rightly so, as Rodgers won 7 major trophies during his time with the Glasgow club. They are on the cusp of a historic third consecutive treble.
After his playing career was cut short due to a genetic knee condition, Rodger’s began his work as a youth coach at Reading. In 2004, he was employed by Chelsea where he impressed and eventually became reserve team manager. Although his breakthrough came with Swansea at the turn of the decade followed by Liverpool where he almost won the league.
Leicester City Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said they were delighted to bring a manager of his caliber to the club. The gaffer was in attendance to see the foxes win at home last night vs Brighton. Rodger’s first game in charge will be a tricky game away at Watford on Sunday.
