Having been without a coach for over three months, Sports Authority of India (SAI) gave necessary clearance to Hockey India to appoint Graham Reid as the men’s national team chief coach till the end of 2020, on Monday.
His appointment was more or less certain after Hockey India proposed his name as head coach to SAI last month.
The 54-year-old will join SAI Bangalore shortly for the ongoing national camp. He is been appointed till 2020 but his tenure can be extended till 2022 FIH World Cup depending upon his performance.
It has been learned that Hockey India will provide Reid with a salary of USD 15,000 per month and will be shifting base to Bangalore with his family.
Reid said about his new appointment, “It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as the head coach of the most exciting and threatening team of world hockey. No other country has a history in this sport compared to India.
“I have a passion for the fast and attacking brand of hockey that India plays which marries closely with the Australian style. I am looking forward working with Hockey India, SAI, MYAS, team support staff and players with the continuation of the positive development of the team in the lead up to the Tokyo Olympics.”
