After the ‘terrible’ Champions League semi-final collapse at Liverpool on Tuesday, Coach Ernesto Valverde will possibly face the sack.
As Liverpool marched to the Champions League final on the back of the competitions greatest ever comebacks, Barca was blown away at Anfield and the Barca president Josep Bartomeu dodged guaranteeing the future of his coach.
“We are very emotional now because of the elimination. We have to raise our spirits because there is a Copa del Rey final to come. There will be difficult days for everyone but we have to lift our heads”, said Bartomeu.
Valverde admitted that Barcelona had only them to be blamed as they failed to match the intensity of Liverpool and lost their cool after the Reds scored twice in quick succession in the second half.
“I don’t know how it will affect me. But here we are, the coach has to take the responsibility,” said Valverde.
Valverde who signed a new contract in February which lasts only until 2020, boasts of a record which is faultless out of Europe. But surely there will be calls for change, by some who don’t approve of his pragmatic tendencies and those who are overwhelmed by his placid approach.
