Veteran wrestler Sushil Kumar bagged his ticket in the India squad for the World Wrestling Championships pipping a spirited Jitender Kumar 4-2 in a bitterly fought 74 kg final in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The consistent attacks from both the wrestlers made the 1500 fans that filled the IGI stadium cross their fingers as they watch their favorite star in action.
Sushil opened a 4-0 lead in the first period and ended up causing an eye-injury to his opponent early in the second period for which he apologized immediately.
Soon after another attacking move from Sushil had Jitender wincing in pain as he suffered an elbow injury. Still, he stood up valiantly and never gave up, thrice got hold of Sushil’s right leg which he couldn’t convert to point due to lack of grip.
Sushil as facing the heat and the two medical breaks he took surely had given him enough breath before the next move.
Jitender later reduces the margin of win with two push-out points. He was given another chance to win a chance to compete in the World Championship berth in 79 kg by challenging today’s winner Virdev Gulia.
