A brace from former Galactico Angel Di Maria followed by a goal from Thomas Meunier saw Paris Saint-German win 3-0 convincingly against Real Madrid on Wednesday. The victory in Paris saw the home team top Group A standings ahead of Club Brugge & Galatasaray who played out a stalemate.
In the absence of stars like Neymar, Mbappe & Cavani, it was the argentine who took the matters in his own hands to carry his team over the finishing line. In the process, Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season. So much so, they could not even register a single shot on target.
The French champions reminded once again that they are to be taken seriously in this competition. Despite a disappointing ouster last season at the hands of Manchester United, they possess the firepower which can turn a match on its head any day. PSG remain unbeaten at home in the Group stages of the Champions League since 2004.
Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid have problems of their own. They have won only 2 matches of the 5 played out this season. Like their opponents, they are also looking to erase the horrors of last season’s defeat, albeit to a young & exciting Ajax team. Madrid was also depleted with Ramos, Nacho, Marcelo & Modric all absent.
Although it’s a setback, it’s far from over for the whites as they are still expected to qualify from this group along with PSG. Things are however looking bright for the victors of the night & they’ll be hoping to go all the way this time.
