Yashaswi Jaiswal is the latest Indian teenage sensation to make it big on the stage of the Indian Premier League. The talented youngster who once made a living selling Panipuri’s was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for a hefty sum of Rs.2.4 crore.
Jaiswal will travel to South Africa with India’s Under 19 team as part of the youth world cup which begins on 17th January. The 17 year old was already tipped to be a hot buy in the auction based on his recent performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 564 runs at a staggering average of 112.80 with 3 hundred & a fifty. Although his highlight knock was of 203 runs off 154 balls with 12 sixes & 17 fours. With that he became the youngest batsman to hit a double hundred in List A cricket. In 2015, Yashasvi etched his name in the record books by hitting 319 not out and registering bowling figures of 13 for 99 in the Giles Shield Cricket Tournament in Mumbai to set a record for the highest score and most wickets in a match in a school-level competition.
Bhupendra Jaiswal, his father said that his son’s hard work paid off after he was picked by the Rajasthan Royals. “His hard work is paying off. I hope that he will perform well in the IPL and would get a chance in the Indian side. I am extremely happy. It is not about money. It is about the hard work that he has done. He is making us proud and I pray to God that he will do well in the upcoming U-19 World Cup and bring the coveted trophy to the country.” Yashasvi’s relatives were seen rejoicing his selection by Rajasthan Royals and celebrated the feat by distributing sweets.
