The All India Football Federation of India (AIFF) runs out of money facing acute an acute financial crisis due to the “non-payment of dues” to the tune of Rs 25 crore by its commercial partner IMG-Reliance. For the past two quarters, the federation’s commercial partner has not cleared the dues and not able to pay even the prize money of Rs 1 crore to the I-League winners, Chennai City besides failure to pay the referees and clear traveling costs.
The agreement signed in 2010 between AIFF and IMG-Reliance says that the federation is entitled to get Rs 50 crore from its commercial partner.
“The federation is unable to pay I-League clubs to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore prize money. The outstanding amount is Rs 4 crore in total including traveling costs and subsidies. “Quarterly dues have not been paid since January. The clubs are writing mails. The Minerva Punjab FC is writing every day”, a well-placed AIFF official told the PTI.
It is been over three months since The Chennai City was crowned champions of the I-League and the concerned CEO of the club hopes that they would get the prize money soon.
