The International Cricket Council announced on Thursday that Sri Lankan bowler Akila Dananjaya has been banned from international cricket for a period of 1 year. This was done after an independent assessment of his bowling action was conducted.
The legality of Dananjaya’s action came into question during the first test against New Zealand in Galle. Subsequent to that an independent assessment was conducted in Chennai on August 29th which confirmed that he employed an illegal bowling action. However, this is not the first time his action has been under scrutiny. The spinner was suspended back in December 2018 & then allowed to resume in February 2019 following remedial work.
Dananjaya will be allowed to approach the ICC for a re-assessment of his bowling action after the expiry of this 1-year period.
