Former world No 1 tennis player. Andy Murray has undergone hip resurfacing surgery in London, the 31-year old Scot said on Tuesday.
The two-time Wimbledon champion was debating having this procedure which involves inserting a metal plate into the joint, in a final bid to prolong his career. He announced recently that his troubling hip had left him facing up to the prospect of retirement this year with his first round loss to Roberto Bautista Agut potentially the last of his professional career.
The hip resurfacing surgery was confirmed on Tuesday when he posted a picture of him post-op along with an X-ray with the words, “I underwent a hip resurfacing surgery in London yesterday morning …feeling a bit battered and bruised just now but hopefully that will be the end of my hip pain.
“I now have a metal hip as you can see in the second photo and I look like I have got a bit of gut in the photo”.
This is his second round of surgery on the troublesome joint, 12 months after the first one which did not result in much improvement. Murray will now have to undergo more rehabilitation to see if he can play again.
