Barcelona has confirmed the signing of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who will cost the La Liga leaders an initial 75m euros plus another 11m euro for a five-year deal.
Although the 21-year-old has admitted of being in talks with Manchester City and PSG before signing for Barcelona. He was also linked to making a statement of joining Juventus as well. De Jong has been a part of Ajax from Willem II in 2015 and has played 65 times for Amsterdam Club. He also won five caps for his country.
“I spoke to PSG, yes. I rang Maxwell to tell him I was not joining them and my agent informed PSG. I also spoke with Guardiola about a move to Man City.
“Clubs all try to convince you when they want you. I am happy and proud that they did so much to get me.”
De Jong became the third major Barca signing of the transfer window following transfer on loans of Jeison Murillo (Valencia) and Kevin-Prince Boateng (Sassuolo).
De Jong has helped Ajax reach the last 16 of the Champions League. De Jong will continue to play for Ajax for the remainder of the Eredivisie campaign and sooner he will be joining Messi and Co.
