Chelsea set a new Europa League record of 16 successive matches unbeaten on Thursday with 1-1 semi-final first leg draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Chelsea’s Spanish midfielder Pedro grabbed a crucial away goal for the London club on the stroke of half-time.
The Blues came in par with Atletico Madrid’s previous best of 15 games unbeaten after beating Slavia Prague in the quarter-finals and surpassed the Spanish club on Thursday. Chelsea began its record-breaking run back from 2012 when they lifted up the Europa League trophy.
Frankfurt initiated their lead with the help of Luka Jovic who superbly steered in Filip Kostic’s ball. While the Blues started with Eden Hazard on the bench, just before the half-time, Pedro equalized with the crucial goal.
David Luiz also went in close but his free-kick came off the bar. Chelsea will now have the chance of making their wins to 17 in next Thursday’s second leg.
