Cristiano Ronaldo once more performed his goal magic and with one score secured the Italian Super Cup for Juventus with a 1-0 win over 10-man AC Milan.
Juventus on Wednesday clinched the trophy for the first time since 2015, with a second-half header from the Portugal international who signed in to the Italian club from Real Madrid.
The match which was held at Saudi Arabia was overshadowed by controversy with calls for it to be relocated over human rights issues in Saudi Arabia with women allowed attending the game only if they are accompanied by men.
According to the media reports, 15 000 women attended the game among the 61 000 crowds in the stadium.
The victory was also the first piece of silverware for Ronaldo since he swapped club for Turin last summer. Juventus claimed a record eighth Super Cup title, one more than AC Milan who has won seven.
“I really wanted this, to get off to a good start of 2019. This is only the start; we will take it one step at a time. Since we have got this cup, now we must keep working hard to achieve the next trophy”, warned the victorious Ronaldo after the match.
