Wreckage from a plane carrying footballer, Emiliano Sala, was found in the English Channel on Sunday morning after two weeks searching for the missing Cardiff City player.
The Piper Malibu N264DB was lost in January 21st on its way from Nantes, France to Cardiff after completing a £15 million ($19.8m) transfer to Cardiff City. The Argentine was on his way back to England after saying goodbye to his friends in France when his plane carrying himself and the pilot David Ibbotson disappeared from radar close to the Channel Islands.
Suspected debris from the aircraft was washed away to the Normandy Coastline in France last Wednesday. The plane was located after an extensive search of the area and the marine scientist, David Mearns who lead the search on Sunday confirmed that the wreckage was found which was informed to the family.
“Wreckage of the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and piloted by David Ibbotson was located early this morning by FPV MORVEN and as agreed by AAIB they moved the GEO OCEAN III over the position we provided them to visually identify the plane by ROV. The families have been notified by the police. The AAIB will be making a statement tomorrow but tonight our sole thoughts are with the families and friends of Emiliano and David”, Mearns tweeted on Monday.
