Cricketing legend & former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to be the next President of the BCCI. The 47-year-old President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is likely to be elected for the post unopposed on October 23rd.
According to sources, the decision was taken in an unofficial meeting held in Mumbai which was attended by the powerful bigwigs of the Indian Cricket community. This included past presidents of the BCCI including CSK owner N Srinivasan & BJP Minister Anurag Thakur. Both were thought to be lobbying for their candidates to get the coveted posts in the organization.
Ganguly is expected to file his nominations today as it is the last day to do so as per the election schedule. Along with him, Union Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah is expected to become the new Secretary & Karnataka’s Brijesh Patel will be the next IPL Chairman. Interestingly Patel was also rumored to be in the running for the President’s post. Anurag Thakur’s younger brother Arun Dhumal will be the Treasurer.
Ganguly added, “It’s a great feeling as I have played for the country and captained the country. And I am taking over at a time when BCCI has not been in greatest of position for the last three years. Its image has got hampered quite a lot. It’s a great opportunity for me to do something good,” He will have to demit the office in July, due to compulsory cooling-off period. The news has brought joy to the fans as they feel their beloved Dada can restore some order in the administration of Indian Cricket.
