Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff insists that Lewis Hamilton, the leading Formula 1 driver, does not get the acknowledgment that he deserves. In a recent interview, he was seen saying Hamilton may be the greatest F1 driver of all time but ‘negativity and envy’ are denying him the recognition that he deserves.

“Not everyone recognizes a great career, a great sportsman and greatness overall while it is happening”, Wolff commented while comparing the five-time world champion to the legendary Michael Schumacher.

He also claimed that Hamilton is on the same track as Schumacher in creating and breaking unbelievable records.

“With Michael, he was recognized only after he was retired and even more after the tragedy. I think it is a pity”, he added. Schumacher who turns 50 in January was not seen in public since his tragic skiing accident five years ago.

“Everybody wants to be recognized in their own country and in order to achieve the success he has, you need to be sensitive”, Wolff said.

Hamilton has 73 victories to his claim and won 51 out of the 100 Grand Prix since 2014 along with four of the last five championships. He also has a record 83 pole positions and was recently the runner-up in the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award.
