Former Australian cricket captain, Ian Chappell feels the Indian cricket team currently is the best in pace bowling and fielding but it is nowhere close to being the best in batting.
When asked if this was the best Indian team of all time on ‘ESPNCrickinfo’, Chappell said,” This Indian side is the best fast bowling contingent I have seen from India ever and the best fielding side too”.
“But it is not the best batting side. I have seen better batting combinations from India than this team at present”.
Cheteshwar Pujara with his unconditional patience and determination was adjudged man of the series for being the top-scorer but for once the much-vaunted Indian batting was overshadowed by the team’s pacers. The Indian pacers with their well-executed strategy accounted for 50 of the 70 Australian wickets.
The triumphant pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami together had an average of 21.62 in the four-match series while Australia’s Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood averaged over 30.
Chappell felt overall the Indian bowlers did the best to out-bowl the Australians.
“I think the seam position of Indian fast bowlers were very good. They kept it up and perhaps that’s the reason why they swung the ball more than Australians”, he explained.
