The Gujarat team will take on the Mumbai team in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Playerzpot League 2023 at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on 26th May, Friday. Both teams have had a good season thus far. Gujarat finished on top of the points table, while Mumbai managed to qualify for the playoffs after finishing fourth in the league stage of the tournament. Gujarat lost to Chennai by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 and Mumbai, on the other hand, defeated Lucknow by 71 runs in the Eliminator.

Gujarat and Mumbai will lock horns against each other for the third time in the ongoing season of the Indian Playerzpot League. In the previous two encounters, each side won the game. Two teams met thrice in the tournament, with Mumbai leading 2-1. The upcoming match is expected to be exciting as Gujarat will look to qualify for the Final for the second time on the trot and Mumbai will be hoping to book the Final berth for the seventh time in the tournament’s history.

Players to watch out for

#1 S Gill (Gujarat): S Gill has been the backbone of Gujarat’s batting line-up since last season of the Indian Playerzpot League. The 22-year-old has repaid the faith shown in him by the team management. In Qualifier 1 against Chennai, Gill played a slow knock of 42 off 38 balls at a strike rate of 110.53. However, one cannot deny the fact that S Gill has been one of the top-performing batsmen in the ongoing season of the tournament. He is currently the second-leading run-getter of the season, amassing 722 runs, including two centuries and four half-centuries, at an average of 55.53 and a strike rate of 149.17 in 15 matches so far. Gill holds the joint record for scoring the most consecutive centuries in a season (2). S Gill will look to unleash his firepower in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai and take Gujarat to the Final.

#2 SK Yadav (Mumbai): SK Yadav seems to be in good form ever since he bounced back after poor outings in the initial stage of the Indian Playerzpot League. His form has been very crucial for Mumbai, especially in the second stage of the tournament. In Eliminator against Lucknow, the 32-year-old scored 33 off 20 balls at a strike rate of 165. This season, SK Yadav has aggregated 544 runs, including a century and four half-centuries, at an average of 41.85 and a strike rate of 183.78 in 15 matches so far. Yadav is currently the only batsman to have a strike rate of over 180. SK Yadav is often known for playing different strokes and making difficult shots look easy. He has been one of the go-to batsmen whenever the team was in trouble and turn the game around on its head. SK Yadav can be a potent threat to Gujarat’s bowling line-up.

#3 M Sharma (Gujarat): M Sharma has become the backbone of Gujarat’s bowling in the ongoing season of the Indian Playerzpot League. The 34-year-old is currently the pace attack of Gujarat alongside M Shami. In Qualifier 1 against Chennai, Sharma scalped two wickets while conceding 31 runs at an economy rate of 7.2 in four overs. It has been a comeback season for M Sharma after missing out on playing the previous two editions of the tournament. This season, he has scalped 19 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls, at an average of 16.58 and an economy rate of 8.11 in 12 matches so far. M Sharma has been one of the most impactful players for Gujarat this season. He has strengthened Gujarat’s bowling attack with his ability to take wickets in the powerplay as well as in the middle overs. M Sharma will look to put up a good show with the ball in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai.

#4 A Madhwal (Mumbai): A Madhwal is one of the breakthrough talents in the ongoing season of the Indian Playerzpot League. He was very impressive in Eliminator against Lucknow, scalping 5 wickets while conceding just five runs at an economy rate of 1.40 in 3.3 overs. The 29-year-old ran through Lucknow’s batting and his performance helped Mumbai to seal the spot in Qualifier 2. This season, A Madhwal has scalped 13 wickets, including a fifer and a four-wicket haul, at an average of 12.85 and an economy rate of 7.77 in seven matches so far. A Madhwal sprung a surprise with his impressive bowling in the last two games against Hyderabad and Lucknow. He has become the backbone of Mumbai’s bowling attack in the last few games of the season.
