Barcelona forward Lionel Messi continues to create and rewrite history into the Spanish football by becoming the first football player to score 400 goals in La Liga when he netted against Eibar on Sunday.
The Blaugrana welcomed minnows Eibar to Camp Nou hoping to reestablish their lead atop the La Liga table and the Catalan giants just did that emerging with a 3-0 victory.
In his 435th League game, shortly after half-time, the Argentinean scored his landmark goal into the bottom-right corner of the Eibar net in a typically clinical fashion. The goal stood as a hugely–significant one for Barcelona’s long-standing icon, Lionel Messi as he became the first one to rack up 400 goals for one club in any of Europe’s top 5 leagues.
The victory at Camp Nou takes Barcelona five points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo with 409 goals in 507 games across England, Spain, and Italy is the top scorer in Europes supreme 5 leagues and 31-year old Messi is the second in position with his 400 goals.
Manager Ernesto Valverde was in all praise for Messi who so far won 9 La Liga titles and is on course to win a 10th, “ He is an extraordinary player. He is not only a goal scorer but a born-goal scorer who also generates play, the assists, everything he gives the team in general”.
