Nathan Lyon took his 16th five wicket-haul to help Australia win against Pakistan by an innings & 48 runs. The match which started with David Warner’s legendary 335 was ended with Lyon’s heroics as Australia sealed the series 2-0. With this win, Tim Paine led Australia to have now completed its 5th consecutive clean sweep-win over Pakistan. Pakistan hasn’t won a Test on Australian soil since 1995 which includes 13 consecutive losses.
Lyon found plenty of turns and bounce on a flat track to tear through the Pakistan attack and return figures of 5-69. And with that, the master spinner has now completed 50 test wickets at the Adelaide Oval, the ground at which he has previously worked as a groundsman. It is interesting to note that he had never taken a five-wicket haul against Pakistan. Lyon told ABC radio after the win, “It’s a great place to play cricket … it’s a great wicket and Damian has done a fantastic job again. I love playing here. It’s probably one of, if not the best, wickets in the world”.
Australia had won the first test in Brisbane by an innings and five runs. Tougher opposition awaits them with the arrival this month of New Zealand for three Tests — in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.
