UFC 229 on Saturday night in Las Vegas became the most talked about events in the history of MMA, but for all the wrong reasons. Conor McGregor challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov after nearly a two-year layoff for the lightweight championship he once held. But McGregor faced defeat after being submitted to a choke applied by Nurmagomedov in the fourth round. But this wasn’t the end, the actions happened hereafter became even worse for both the fighters.
Apparently, Nurmagomedov scaled the cage to kick some blows to fellow fighter Dillon Danis on the outside, the reason for this is still not apparent. But the whole scene turned out to be a disgrace to the MMA culture. While Nurmagomedov was busy fighting the mob down the ring, McGregor also got involved in a brawl with some officials of Nurmagomedov.
But if you thought McGregor was out of this whole scene, well that’s not the case. Complaints have been filed against both McGregor and Murmagomedov after officials were able to preview the unseen footages from the incident. The complaints will be filed in the course of the next 24-28 hours.
According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who spoke to Nevada State Athletic Commision (NSAC) chairman Anthony Marnell on Monday, “We will be filing against Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, because we withheld one purse, we will have to move expeditiously to a complaint and hearing. We have held 100 percent of one fighter’s money, for the complaints to get out in the next 24-48 hours.
Khabib’s father said to the press that he’s ready to dole out harsh punishment, as for him discipline comes first before victory. Although McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh wants Nevada State Athletic Commision (NSAC) to be lenient on Nurmagomedov, as no matter the brawl, for him Nurmagomedov’s efforts to win the match should not be wasted.
Whereas for McGregor, he is indeed hungry for an immediate rematch inside the Octagon with Nurmagomedov. However, Nurmagomedove’s teammate former middleweight champion Rockhold admitted that if a rematch is meant to happen, then Khabib would demand the biggest paycheck in the history of MMA.
NSAC promised that if any men involved in attacking McGregor were UFC fighters, then they would never fight in MMA. NSAC is expected to give a severe punishment to Nurmagomedov, like a lengthy suspension, especially when the Nevada governor has to run out of the arena after being scared for what got transpired after the fight.
