On Thursday, Mumbai team for Ranji Trophy was announced and it seems like the domestic giant’s key player, Prithvi Shaw, won’t be joining the squad due to his elbow injury. The Ranji Trophy is due from November 1 to 4 in New Delhi and the match will be played against Railways. Prithvi Shaw played a crucial role in winning the Vijay Hazare Trophy but now it seems like the team has to manage without their charm.
Shaw, who made his Test debut by slamming a hundred in Rajkot against West Indies, was struck by a short delivery off Deepak Chahar while battling for India A in the Deodhar Trophy in the Capital on Tuesday.
The 18-year old got hit on the same spot during the Test by a Windies pacer. The teenaged opener was sent back to Mumbai by BCCI as they want him to take necessary meditation rather than playing. The bruise on his elbow is followed by an injury on his shoulder suffered during the Vijay Hazare KOs.
Mumbai chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that there might be some chances that Shaw might return if he recovers right in time for the game.
“He is supposed to meet the doctor early next week. If he is cleared, he will be added as an additional member of the squad and will play,” informed a source.
Shreyas Iyer, who led Mumbai to the Vijay Hazare title earlier this month, has been named the captain for the Ranji Trophy.
Squad:
Shreyas Iyer (C), Dhawal Kulkarni (VC), Siddhesh Lad, Jay Bista, Surya Kumar Yadav, Akshay Sardesai, Aditya Tare, Eknath Kerkar, Shivam Dube, Akash Parkar, Karsh Kothari, Shams Mulani, Akhil Herwadkar, Tushar Deshpande, Royston Dias.
