Perth has beaten out bids from Melbourne and Brisbane and has been named as the host city for this year’s Fed Cup final between Australia and France.

Newly crowned French Open champion, Ashleigh Barty is expected to lead Australia in the tie at the RAC Arena on Nov ninth and tenth. The final is going to mark Perth’s finals first time in a decade as it has last hosted the Fed Cup final in 1971. This also marks Australia’s first home final since 1978.

Australia’s Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik said in a statement on the Tennis Australia website,” I am so excited we have the chance to play the Fed Cup in Perth and show the very best of women’s tennis right here in my hometown.

“It is particularly exciting to be making this announcement just a little over a week since Ashleigh Barty won the French Open.”Tennis Australia Chief Executive Craig  Tiley said,” I am delighted we are able to stage the Fed Cup final in Perth, in what will be a spectacular showcase of women’s tennis”.
