Cricket players coming from the newly created Union Territory of Ladakh will represent Jammu and Kashmir in the domestic circuit for the time being as confirmed by Vinod Rai chief of Indian cricket’s Committee of Administrators (COA) on Tuesday.
The government of India bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided for the time being that they won’t have any separate state body for the newest UT.
“We are not thinking of having a separate state body for Ladakh as of now. The players from that region will continue to qualify t to represent J&K in all BCCI domestic competitions,” Rai told to PTI.
When asked about whether Ladakh will become a voting member of BCCI like Pondicherry he said there is no discussion of anything of that sort till now. Also, the arrangement will be the same as of Chandigarh where the players will either play for Punjab or Haryana in domestic competitions.
As the government decided to revoke provisions of Article 370, which gave special status Jammu and Kashmir, Rai assured BCCI has nothing to worry about and cricket is expected to continue in the valley as usual.
