Quick Analysis:
Tottenham got some massive amounts of luck mid-week in the Champions League and managed to qualify to the next round. But they needed to score a late goal and also got a beautiful gift from PSV Eindhoven who held Inter Milan to a draw. Tottenham will now return to Premier League duties when they will play host to Burnley on Saturday. Burnley is having a really bad season so far but managed to broke out of their slump with a home win over Brighton last week.
Tottenham (12-4-0) needed the same or better result with Inter Milan mid-week, but the two teams had really opposite match-ups. Tottenham played in Spain against Barcelona while Inter Milan hosted PSV Eindhoven. Barcelona took an early lead in that match but Tottenham pulled even at the 85th minute for the final 1-1. PSV Eindhoven also held Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw so Tottenham held the 2nd spot and qualified to the next round. Last week in the Premier League they played a pretty mediocre match on the road against Leicester but still managed to win by 2-0. Tottenham is now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Premier League with 36 points, two ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal, and five behind Manchester City. They have been quite solid at home so far in the league (4-2-0), where they also have two wins, a draw and a loss in other competitions.
On the other hand, Burnley (3-10-3) are coming into this match after an excellent performance at home against Brighton. They were really good throughout the whole match and much more accurate in their shots. They scored the only goal of the match at the 40th minute with Tarkowski to snap an eight-match winless streak (0-6-2). Burnley is currently sitting at the 17th spot of the Premier League with 12 points, just two points ahead of Huddersfield and the relegation zone. But they have the 3rd worst offense in the league with just 15 goals so far, and the 2nd worst defense with 32 conceded. They have been equally bad on the road so far (1-5-2), where they have scored just 6 goals and have conceded 17 in the process. Having to compete in the Europa League earlier in the season really did a number on Burnley, who have really struggled to be consistent. To make matters worse, they will be missing Pope and Ward here, while Gudmundsson and Defour are still being listed as questionable to participate.
Probable Line-ups:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris (GK); Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen. Davies; Winks, Dier, Lucas, Alli, Eriksen; Kane.
Burnley: Hart (GK); Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Lennon, Westwood, Cork, Brady; Wood, Barnes.
