Manchester United has been hit with another blow as Paul Pogba is set to join David De Gea on the sidelines with a foot injury. That coupled with the poor run of form means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has an uphill battle.
The red devils were already under pressure after their star keeper was ruled out of the mega clash on Sunday. It started as De Gea was forced to be withdrawn during Spain’s Euro Qualifier against Sweden with what appeared to be a groin issue. Solskjaer told Sky Sports they were awaiting scan results but ruled him out of the match. Sergio Romero is expected to replace De Gea & make his first league start of the season. The Argentine has so far only featured in Europa League & Carabao Cup games.
Paul Pogba who has been suffering from an ankle issue has also been ruled out. The Frenchman who has been side-lined for several of United’s recent games was recuperating in Dubai but seems to have suffered a setback. United have not won in the league for over a month & hang in the 12th spot just 2 points off the drop zone. With just 2 wins in the opening 8 league games, they would have hoped to have a full squad in facing runaway league leaders Liverpool who have also been unbeaten.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now seems to be the punters’ favorite to be the first manager to get the sack. He will be hoping to get something from the match. A win against fierce rivals will help get the fans & club hierarchy behind him or at least buy him some time to get things in order. As of now, it seems like a distant dream, but who knows? Stranger things have happened in football.
