The queen of track and field, India’s legend PT Usha has been nominated for the International Association of Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) ‘Veteran Pin’ award.
On Thursday, Olympian Usha revealed the news on Twitter saying,” IAAF Veteran Pin for the long and meritorious service to the cause of World Athletics! Thank You, IAAF for this incredible honor.”
She also posted the picture of the letter by IAAF CEO Jon Ridgeon congratulating her. The letter said, “We are delighted that you have been nominated by your Area Association as a recipient of the IAAF Veteran Pin for your long and meritorious service to the cause of the World Athletics”.
He also extended an invitation to the 55-year-old to attend the award-giving ceremony which will be held in Qatar in September during the opening of the 52nd IAAF Congress.
Usha’s stellar performance was at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics wherein she became the first Indian to reach the finals of the 400m hurdles, but unfortunately lost the bronze by one-hundredth of s second.
She is also known as the “Payyoli Express” after her hometown in Kerala and was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1983 and two years later in 1985, she was conferred with the Padma Shri Award.
