Sourav Ganguly’s record was broken on Tuesday as Rohit Sharma who has been in sublime in the ongoing World Cup 2019, scored his fourth century of the tournament against Bangladesh.
India’s former skipper Ganguly had scored 3 centuries in the 2003 World Cup against hosts England, Pakistan and South Africa.
As Rohit notched up his fourth hundred of the tournament to help India post 314/9 against their Asian rivals, the Indian vice-captain equaled the record for most centuries in a World Cup with Kumar Sangakkara. In the 2015 World Cup, the Sri Lankan skipper scored four consecutive centuries.
The match against Bangladesh opened with a sort of uncertainty for Rohit and just then he got a lucky lifeline as his catch being dropped by Tamim Iqbal. He was at a score of 9 only at that time but the catch –miss came as a lifesaver as he got a chance for the century at 90 deliveries.
ICC took on to Twitter to congratulate the batsman for his outstanding achievement which says, “Century for Rohit Sharma! “He becomes just the second player to score 4 hundred in a single World Cup campaign. What a tournament he is having.”
