Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United for a club-record fee of 80m euros (£74m) on a five-year deal.
Lukaku, 26 who scored 42 goals in 96 games with United arrived in Italy for his medical on Wednesday and has now sealed his transfer to the San Siro on a deal until June 30, 2024.
Lukaku who becomes the third most expensive signing by a Serie A club after Juventus deal with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain expressed his delight in joining the new club and said, “Inter were the only club I wanted. I am here to bring the Nerazzurri back to the top.”
Inter announced Lukaku’s arrival with a video of the Belgium international player in an Inter T-shirt which says,” Inter: It is not for everyone, that’s why I am here.” He was greeted by Inter fans that swarmed outside the Italian Olympic Committee who chanted, “Lukaku is ours”.
He had not played any of the United’s pre-season campaign ahead of the move and was seen training instead with Anderlecht, the club with which he started his senior career.
