Team India missed the opportunity to level the three-match series as the second T20I match between India and Australia was abandoned due to the Melbourne rain on Friday.
India was naturally disappointed as rain played the spoilsport again after the Brisbane game was also shortened due to the same reason. With the second match now being called off Australia leads the series 1-0 against India.
India badly needs the victory at the MCG and was ready to chase 137 after Australia’s innings were washed out after 19 overs. After the first spell of rain, the target was revised to 90 runs from 11 overs for India and again to 46 from five overs.
Nearly 90 minutes were lost due to the intermittent rain officials were forced to call off the game at 10.02 pm local time. It was a frustrating scenario for the players and the 60,000 plus crowd who had gathered at the iconic venue for the match.
The Victory would have given Australia an unassailable 2-0 series lead and take the team to 11 T20I wins for the year while with the match not producing any result; India can only level the series in the final game in Sydney on Friday
