Saurav Ghosal became the first male Indian Squash player to break into the top 10 of the men’s Professional Squash Association (PSA) world rankings for April which was released on Monday.
Two Indian women squash players- Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal- had earlier reached top-10 in the world rankings
Saurav Ghosal has moved up two places to the career-high ranking of 10 with his recent achievements like making it to the quarter-finals of the 2018-2019 PSA World Championship in Chicago. Also, he was the quarter-finalist at the prestigious Grasshopper Cup in Zurich, Switzerland.
His previous best was 11 which were in last October but thereafter had dropped down. Egypt’s World Champion Ali Farag retains his top position followed by his fellow countrymen Mohammed ElShorbagy and Tarek Momen at World No.2 and No.3 respectively.
“Full credit to Ghosal for the perseverance showed. This is excellent news to Indian Squash”, India’s National Coach Cyrus Poncha appreciated his achievement.
