Eileen Ash, the oldest living international cricketer, celebrated her 107th birthday on Tuesday. She played seven Tests for England Women either side of World War II, making her debut for England around eighty years ago.
Born on 30th October 1911, this former English Cricketer played for England between 1937 and 1949. Her debut was against Australia at Northampton and her last game was against New Zealand in Auckland. Ash who played as Eileen Whelan has seven tests to her name and she took 10 Test wickets at 23 runs apiece.
One of the most active and adventurous centenarians in Britain, Eileen Ash last year caught the attention of the media by flying in a Tiger Moth on her 106th birthday.
Ash was at Lord’s for the 2017 Women’s World Cup final, to ring the traditional five-minute bell before play, a job she said brought back memories.
