UEFA banned Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller for two matches after a bad tackle against Ajax last month.
Muller has been banned for both games against Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16.
Muller received his marching orders in the 3-3 draw against Ajax after a high kick on Nicolas Tagliafico that left the Argentinean requiring staples and stitches on the back of his head.
He apologised on Twitter after the match saying,” I am very sorry for what happened yesterday! Was not intentionally. Get well soon”.
This is similar to the sending off to the red card received by Nani while playing for Manchester United against Real Madrid in 2013 wherein the Portugal winger was only given a one-match ban by UEFA.
Muller who has contributed 5 goals and 6 assists for Bayern in 25 matches this season is not having the best performances of his career. However, he is one of the biggest assets to the club due to his unmatched ability to find space and exploit it to the fullest.
His absence will be a significant blow to Bayern’s chances of progressing.
