Virat Kohli, the captain of the Indian cricket team became once again the sole Indian in the Forbes 2019 list of world’s highest-paid athletes, over the past year, Forbes reported on Tuesday in its annual sporting rich list.
Barcelona and Argentina icon Lionel Messi led the list with a total of $127 million in earnings while his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo who won The Nations League title recently with Portugal was placed second in the list with the total earning of $109 million.
Brazil and PSG striker Neymar completed a sweep of the top three spots by footballers, coming in third with earnings of $105 million.
Kohli was ranked 83rd on the list last year and climbed down to 100th spot this time even if there is an increase of USD 1m in endorsements. According to the Forbes list, Virat Kohli’s estimated earnings is USD 21m from endorsements and USD 4m from salary and winnings, taking his total tally to USD 25m for the past one year.
Meanwhile, boxer, Floyd Mayweather, who held the top spot last year, did not even feature in the list this time around.
