West Indies coach Stuart Law faces suspension for his side’s upcoming two one-day internationals against India for inappropriate comments against the match officials.
Law received a 100 percent fine and three demerit points for the breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second test in Hyderabad. He is suspended for two matches as his demerit points accumulate to four within a time span of 24 months. This prohibits Law from the 21 and 24 October ODIs against India in Guwahati and Vishakhapatnam respectively.
The incident occurred after West Indies opener Kieran Powell had been given out on the third and final day of the second Test. Powell fell to a low catch in the slips by Ajinkya Rahane, and the third umpire ruled that Rahane had caught the ball cleanly after watching numerous replays. According to an ICC release, Law went to the third umpire’s room and made “inappropriate comments”. He then “walked to the fourth umpire’s area and, in the presence of the players, again directed inappropriate comments at the fourth official.”
Later Stuart Law was found guilty of breaching Level 2 Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personals. Law had earlier received 25 percent fine and one demerit point during the finals in the Dominica Test against Pakistan in May 2017.
India and West Indies will play a five-match ODI series which will be followed by three T20Is and India already has the upper hand over Windies with the test series 2-0 victory.
This is the second time in the last three months that an international coach has been suspended, with Sri Lanka’s Chandika Hathurusingha also forced to miss matches due to ICC sanctions over a ball-tampering offense.
