Arsenal gained from a bizarre goal from a goalkeeping error to claim a 1-0 win against 10-man Watford which lifted the team back into the Premier League’s top four on Monday.
Gunners took the lead in the 10th minute at Vicarage Road when Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster dallied on a back pass, then slammed his clearance into the outstretched left boot of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The ball rebounded into the net and the things got worse for Watford when Troy Deeney was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Lucas Torreira in the 11th minute.
Soon Watford was reduced to 10 men. But Arsenal was hardly convincing with an extra one man for most of the game but came away with a second win since November to climb above Chelsea into fourth place on goal difference.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery later said, “We were competitive but in the circumstances, we can control the match better.”
Aubameyang who is playing his first full season in the league moved on to 18 goals which are a tie with Sadio Mane and is only behind Sergio Aguero of Manchester City and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool in the race for the Golden Boot.
