The International Cricket Council has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket, World Cup 2019 has approved Rishabh Pant as the replacement player for Shikar Dhawan who was ruled out of the World Cup.
The Indian cricketer was hit on his left hand by a Pat Cummins delivery during India’s match against Australia. Rishabh Pant was immediately brought to England as a backup while the Indian team waited anxiously for Dhawan to recover and exactly 10 days after the injury he was ruled out.
The team manager Sunil Subramaniam addressed the media in Southampton on Wednesday and said, “Shikhar has a fracture on the left hand and will remain in the cast until July 2019. We have requested ICC for Rishabh Pant as the replacement.”
Maybe the injury of Bhuvneshwar Kumar prompted the team management to finally make an announcement of Dhawan’s injury and also India would have only 13 players to select from in the Afghanistan game on June 22 if Pant was not brought in as a replacement. Bhuvaneshwar will be restrained from three matches with a hamstring niggle.
