Yuvraj Singh, India’s 2011 World Cup hero on Monday announced retirement from international cricket marking an end to his ‘rollercoaster’ career. “After 25 years I have decided to move on. Cricket has given me everything and is the reason why I am standing here today. “I was extremely lucky to play 400 games for India. I could have never imagined it when I first started playing cricket.
I was in a love-hate relationship with cricket and can’t explain what it really means to me. This game taught me to fight. I have failed more times than I succeed and I will never give u,” the 37-year-old Yuvraj said addressing the media.
One of India’s finest all-rounders, Yuvi featured in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India and put together 1900 runs in the longest format and 8701 in the one-dayers.
The attacking left-hander listed the 2011 World Cup triumph and soon after he was diagnosed with cancer which was perhaps the biggest challenges he had to overcome. “I was never going to let that disease defeat me,” he remembered. However, his cricketing career was on a decline recently and he last played for India back in 2017. While saying farewell, he added, “Thank you, this has been a lovely journey. See you on the other side.”
