Poker Hands

Royal Flush

A Royal Flush is the highest possible hand in poker, consisting of the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of a similar suit. This means that if you have a Royal Flush, you cannot be beaten by any other hand. For example, if you have the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of spades, you have a Royal Flush in spades, the same goes for any other suits. This is an extremely rare hand and is very difficult to obtain, making it one of the most coveted hands in poker. If two or more players have a Royal Flush at the same time, they would split the pot equally, as no one player has a better hand than the other.

Straight Flush

A Straight Flush is the second highest-ranking hand in poker, just below the Royal Flush. It consists of any five cards in sequence, all of a similar suit. For example, if you have the 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of hearts, you have a Straight Flush in hearts. If two or more players have a straight flush, then the player with the highest ranking cards wins. For eg. If two players have a straight flush in hearts of 7, 8, 9, 10, and Jack and 8, 9, 10, Jack, and Queen, the second sequence takes home the win as Queen is the highest card here.

Four-of-a-kind

Four of a Kind is a very strong hand in poker, ranking just below a Straight Flush and above a Full House. It consists of four cards of the same rank, such as four Aces, four Kings, or four Queens, plus one additional card that does not match the other four cards. Here the deciding factor in the case of a tie is the highest card but if both players have four Aces, then the player with the highest-ranking fifth card (the King) would win, it has to be said that such an instance is a game is very rare to find.

Full House

A Full House is a strong hand in poker, ranking just below Four of a Kind and above a Flush. It consists of three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank, such as three Kings and two Aces, or three Jacks and two Queens. In the event that two or more players have a Full House, the player with the highest-ranking three-of-a-kind wins. If multiple players have the same three-of-a-kind, then the player with the highest-ranking pair wins. If both the three-of-a-kind and the pair are the same, then the players would split the pot.

Flush

A Flush is a strong hand in poker, ranking just below a Full House and above a Straight. It consists of any five cards of a similar suit but not in sequence. If multiple players have the same highest-ranking card, then the next highest-ranking card is used to determine the winner, and so on until all five cards have been compared. If all five cards are the same, then the players would split the pot.

Straight

A Straight is a hand in poker that consists of any five cards in sequence, regardless of their suit. If two or more players have a straight, the player with the highest-ranking card at the top of the sequence wins. For example, if one player has 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and another player has 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, the second player wins because their straight ends with a higher card, the 10.

Three-of-a-kind

Three of a Kind is a hand in poker that consists of three cards of the same rank, plus two additional cards that do not match the rank of the other three cards. If multiple players have the same three-of-a-kind, then the player with the highest-ranking fourth card (known as the "kicker") wins. If both the three-of-a-kind and the kicker are the same, then the players would split the pot.

Two Pair

Two Pair is a hand in poker that consists of two cards of one rank, two cards of another rank, and one card that does not match either of those ranks. In an event where multiple players have two pair then the player with highest ranking card wins. If they have same highest ranking cards then the player with highest ranking second pair wins. If both pairs are the same, then the player with the highest-ranking fifth card (known as the "kicker") wins. If multiple players have the same two pairs and the same kicker, then the pot is split among them.

One Pair

One Pair is a hand in poker that consists of two cards of the same rank, plus three additional cards that do not match the rank of the pair. It is one of the weakest hand you can have in the game with less probability to win the table. If multiple players have the same pair, then the player with the highest-ranking kicker (the highest card among the three remaining cards) wins. If the kicker is also the same, then the players would split the pot.

High Card

A High Card hand is the lowest-ranking hand in poker. It is simply any five cards that do not form any of the above-mentioned hands. If multiple players have the same highest-ranking card, then the second-highest-ranking card is used to determine the winner, and so on until all five cards have been compared. If all five cards are the same, then the players would split the pot. Here there are no sequence of a similar suit but rather a high card from different ones, for example - Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 9 of mixed suits.
